Packaging Engineer II

OVERVIEW

Perfetti Van Melle (makers of Mentos, Airheads, Dentyne, Trident and Bubblicious!) is one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of confectionery and chewing gum with global brands that are being enjoyed in more than 150 countries worldwide. We’re currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Packaging Engineer II to join our growing team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for managing the Mentos and Airheads brands packaging for the USA which includes all aspects of the package life cycle. Specifically, this person will be tasked with packaging innovation/design, material specifications and artwork management at the supplier level. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary, since this person will work with our category teams, marketing, finance, R&D, sales and customer service to implement innovative and cost-effective packaging. This role will also work with external suppliers who are experts in merchandising tools & package design.

• Develop new package designs in support of product initiatives, design/ performance enhancements, promotional activities, and sustainability initiatives
• Create detailed packaging specifications and acceptability criteria for all packaging
  Lead all press checks for new package developments
• Collaborate with suppliers to drive material savings that result in cost savings, efficiency gains, improved LCA or consumer interaction
• Collect data, interpret results, qualify new materials, formulate and then communicate recommendations to influence business decisions and solve problems
• Provide ongoing technical support for PVM Operating Companies, Co-Packers and Co-Manufacturers relative to quality control testing and manufacturing troubleshooting.
• Stay abreast of new technology leading to quicker prototype evaluation or improved package options.
• Develop a network of suppliers, industry experts or install in house creation of packaging concepts.Support packaging supplier capability audits and evaluation

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Related Field
• Packaging Engineering Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• 3 - 5 Years of Relevant Packaging Experience
• Experience with artwork processes associated with printed packaging which includes:
  • Strong knowledge of color and ways to measure
  • Understanding of Flexographic, Rotogravure, Digital and Offset print processes
• Technical expertise in all materials traditionally used for CPG items.   
• Ability to translating concept drawings to technical die lines. 
• Ability to communicate these requirements for product design and a curiosity in applying new materials or structures to our industry.  
• High attention to detail is required.
• Emphasis on materials of construction for the various primary, secondary and tertiary packaging used. The position will need a strong working knowledge of the production of the materials and the in use at the factory through, the retailer
