WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Packaging Engineer Intern is responsible for assisting the Packaging Engineering team on the implementation of new packaging SOPS, line trials, package testing equipment and other project work related to the Air Heads and Mentos brands. This includes but is not limited to:
- Assist in streamlining our current packaging specification system.
- Developing effective rapid prototyping in support of marketing or manufacturing initiatives. Continuously exploring and evaluating the industry for innovative packaging (consumer to cost improvement).
- Support the Packaging team with Sustainable Packaging Initiatives to be compliant with our Environmental & Socially Responsible value.
- Assist with the development of new package components, including specifications.
- Participate in and lead packaging trials at manufacturing facilities as needed.
- Effectively collaborate with cross-functional team members and outside suppliers.
- Present results to the R&D organization upon completion of the term.
- Facilitate lab test method development and functional testing including data analysis and technical reporting of various materials.
- Provide ongoing technical support for the plants, co-packers and co-manufacturers relative to quality control testing and manufacturing troubleshooting.
- Stay abreast of new technology leading to quicker prototype evaluation or improved package options. Develop a network of suppliers, industry experts or install in house creation of packaging concepts.
- Solutions to resolve most packaging issues that arise during manufacturing, logistics or consumer use will be this positions responsibility.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Candidates must be seeking a BS/MS in Packaging, Chemical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering; requirements also include minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) and a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) on engineering related courses.
- Ability to work full time.
- Technical knowledge of all materials traditionally used for CPG items.
- Ability to translate concept drawings to technical die lines.
- Ability to communicate requirements for product design and have a curiosity in applying new materials or structures to our industry.
- High attention to detail.
- The emphasis is on materials of construction for the various primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging used. This position will need a strong working knowledge of the production of the materials and the in use at the factory through, the retailer preferred.
- Ability to travel between facilities preferred.
