OVERVIEW
Perfetti Van Melle - a global confectionary company and makers of great product brands such as Airheads and Mentos- is seeking an enthusiastic college student for an internship with our US Packaging Engineering Team. This Packaging Process Internship/Co-op will be based in our Erlanger, KY facility (near the Cincinnati /CVG airport) with an expectation to work 40 hours per week. This Internship is for the Summer 2025, with the possibility of extension or rotation.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Packaging Process Engineer Intern is responsible for assisting the Packaging Engineering team on the implementation of new packaging materials, line trials, new line commissioning and other project work related to the Air Heads and Mentos brands. This includes but is not limited to:
- Generation of standard work/machine setting sheets.
- Assisting packaging engineers in implementation of new packaging materials.
- Supporting operations with troubleshooting run issues.
- Participating in problem solving teams using root cause analysis and applying LSS ideas to increase line performance.
- Attending trials at local suppliers and generating trial reports.
- Effectively collaborate with cross-functional team members and outside suppliers.
- Present results to the R&D organization upon completion of the term.
- Run data collection, analysis, and reporting to support line improvements.
- Provide ongoing technical support for the plants, co-packers and co-manufacturers relative to quality control testing and manufacturing troubleshooting.
- Stay abreast of new technology leading to quicker prototype evaluation or improved package options. Develop a network of suppliers, industry experts or install in house creation of packaging concepts.
- Solutions to resolve most packaging issues that arise during production, supporting material and equipment use for effective production.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Candidates must be seeking a BS/MS in Packaging, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; requirements also include minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) and a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) on engineering related courses.

The emphasis is on machinery: understanding process inputs v. outputs, troubleshooting issues with machine performance, implementation of improvements for improved reliability.
