WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a key member of our manufacturing team, the Sr Technician participates in Integrated Work Systems (IWS), a continuous improvement framework that helps teams operate more efficiently through standard processes, employee ownership, problem solving, and skill development, to build technical capability, equipment ownership, and understanding of standard work. The Senior Technician takes on a higher level of responsibility in the processing area by helping coordinate daily production requirements, supporting batch accuracy, maintaining process standards, and troubleshooting equipment or process issues. This role requires strong process knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to support product quality, equipment performance, sanitation, changeovers, and consistent execution across the shift. Additional responsibilities include: 

  • Safely operate processing equipment, automatic feed systems, hand trucks, forklifts, palletizers, and other equipment as required.
  • Responsible for package integrity and quality checks, including metal, seals, code date, and product weight and case counts/weights. 
  • Calculate, coordinate, and support production requirements for the assigned processing area. 
  • Add ingredients and mix products according to batch sheets, formulas, and processing standards.
  • Maintain proper temperatures, batch identity, process times, equipment settings, and other critical processing requirements. 
  • Inspect product, materials, and product flow to maintain production standards and quality expectations. Product quality and process flow are monitored throughout the shift.
  • Complete quality checks, inventory worksheets, code date tracking, production changes, and required documentation. 
  • Coordinate and assist with machine clean-outs, sanitation, changeovers, and start-up readiness. 
  • Make adjustments and minor repairs while maintaining critical tolerances on processing equipment. 
  • Support root cause discussions by sharing observations, identifying repeat issues, and helping address equipment, process, or quality losses.
  • Support team members by answering process questions, reinforcing standards, and helping maintain consistent execution. 
  • Adhere to all safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) policies and promote safe work practices.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Previous gum processing, food manufacturing, batching, machine operation, production, or related manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience with processing equipment, automatic feed systems, ingredient handling, batch sheets, formulas, quality checks, sanitation, changeovers, production documentation, centerlines, basic equipment care, and troubleshooting preferred.
  • Ability to complete production documentation, sanitation records, quality checks, inventory worksheets, code date tracking, production changes, and system entries accurately and on time.
  • Strong math skills, including the ability to work with weights, measurements, batch requirements, counts, formulas, and production records.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members, Team Leaders, Maintenance, Quality, and other support resources.
  • Ability to use computers, tablets, scanners, or production systems for required data entry and records.
  • Ability to operate powered material handling equipment if required.
  • Must complete required safety, GMP, food safety, quality, sanitation, equipment operation, lockout/tagout, powered material handling equipment if required, and processing training.
  • Must be able to support and reinforce IWS routines, including standard work, centerline checks, daily direction-setting, defect identification, escalation, root cause activity, and basic equipment care activities.
  • Must be able to use computers or production systems for required data entry, production records, quality checks, sanitation documentation, inventory worksheets, code date tracking, production changes, and other required information.
  • Ability to work overtime hours, above your normal schedule, to meet customer’s demands.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)- Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Uniform, Hairnet, Beard net, and Mask when required.
  • Occasionally exposed to dusty conditions due to the handling of bulk products. The employee must be able to wear and use breathing protection devices as required while working in these conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms. 
  • Ability to occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to talk, hear, and smell.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally push/pull 350-pound carts with wheels.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Employees must be flexible in learning and working in other job functions to ensure a competent, trained

The target range for this position is: $23.50 – 28.50 per hour. 
Perfetti Van Melle considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary.
